Day 1: Depart Awassa
Early in the morning, we drive south towards the rift valley passing through Debre Zeit and the beautiful lakes of Zeway, Langano, Koka and the Abiata and Shalla. Check in at Shabelle Hotel where we shall enjoy our lunch, dinner and overnight stay. Lake Awassa is one of Ethiopia’s most beautiful lakes for it is gifted with a mountainous background, and is home to a huge population of birds, and the shores one can hippo can be spotted. Colobus and Vervet monkeys and baboons are common in the hotel grounds.
On this day, we spend our afternoon on the lake with fisher men enjoying views of the antics of the malachite kingfisher and other water birds.
Day 2: Bird Watching and Depart Addis Ababa
Spend the morning on the lake shores while bird watches would have an opportunity to take an early morning trip to the “fish market,” and get really close to a variety of species that are very used to human company. Have lunch at the hotel and depart to Addis Ababa arriving in the mid afternoon
