Lion safaris in Africa.
The lion( Panthera leo) is the largest carnivore in Africa and a must see once one is on an African safari. The lion is the most sociable animal of the large cats, leaving in loosely structured prides of about five to fifteen lions. These lions hunt at night and their most favourable preys are the buffaloes and medium to large antelopes for example the Impalas, waterbucks, bushbucks among others. Groups of female lions do the most of the hunting in whereas the males watch and protect the young ones. Lions are known to be diurnal than the other cats though they are very well know for doing most of the hunting at night and they just lay under the shade looking the picture of indolence. Lions are typical inhabitants of grasslands and savannas and is not found in forests. Today the lion has been reduced to fragment populations in sub-saharan Africa including one critically endangered population in Western India.
Most lions currently live in East and South Africa that is in Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa, Bostwana, Zambia and Zimbabwe. In Africa the lion is known to be among the Big Five which is a term given to the most fearless and dangerous in the African national parks and the other four include the Elephants, Buffaloes, Leopards and the Rhinoceros.
